Understand Anatomical and Physiological Concepts:
Gain a solid foundation in human anatomy and physiology as it relates to massage therapy. Learn about the musculoskeletal system, the circulatory system, and how massage impacts overall health and well-being.
Anatomy (45 hours)
This course provides a comprehensive overview of human anatomy, focusing on the musculoskeletal system and other key body systems. Students will explore the structure and function of bones, joints, and connective tissues, and muscles, including their origin and insertion points.
Physiology (45h)
Students will delve into the intricate workings of the human body, exploring all major physiological systems, to gain a thorough understanding of how these systems function to maintain overall health and homeostasis. Anatomical terminology and the interrelationships between body systems will be introduced.
Ethics and Professional Aspects (30 hours)
This course will prepare students for the realities of professional practice. Not only will it cover the professional code of ethics and the latest legislation relevant to the practice of massage therapy, it will also introduce the key business elements related to a massage practice, such as marketing strategies, tax and finances, lease agreements, hygiene and sanitation, scheduling, and more.
Sexuality and Professional Practice (30h)
This course teaches massage practitioners to recognize and respect professional boundaries and their responsibilities towards clients. It addresses the topic of sexuality with sensitivity and professionalism. Students will develop skills to handle situations involving sensual or sexual dynamics and will explore concepts of ethics and integrity in their practice.
Communication and Interview Techniques (30h)
Students will learn to apply communication and interpersonal skills within a massage context, ensuring they can provide empathetic and effective client care. This will prepare future practitioners to effectively manage both personal and professional interactions with clients, as well as learn interview techniques to conduct client assessment in a structured and unbiased manner. Case studies will be presented.
Hands-on practice is a core component of this course. Students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in supervised practical sessions, gaining real-world experience in delivering Swedish massage. Emphasis will be placed on developing a confident, intuitive touch and adapting techniques to meet individual client needs.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion in Swedish Massage, qualifying them to practice professionally and further pursue specialized areas within massage therapy.
