Read this if your body feels heavy for no clear reason
You did sleep.
Your alarm didn’t destroy you.
You logged off work at a reasonable hour (for once).
And yet…
Your neck feels tight. Your shoulders are glued to your ears. Your body feels heavy, dense, low-energy — like it didn’t fully recharge overnight.
If you’re thinking, “Why do I still feel like this?”
You’re not alone.
The kind of tired sleep doesn’t fix
This isn’t the “I stayed up too late” tired.
This is the tired that comes from:
- Sitting at a desk all day
- Commuting in the cold or rain
- Being mentally “on” for hours
- Carrying responsibility, deadlines, and small stresses that never fully leave your body
In Montreal, it’s bracing against the cold, rushing through winter days, and holding tension just to get through errands.
In Vancouver, it’s the long screen hours paired with grey skies and barely noticing how tense your body got by 3pm.
You can sleep 8 hours and still wake up heavy — because your body never actually let go.
What’s really happening in your body
While you were working, your body was quietly:
- Clenching your jaw
- Tightening your shoulders
- Shallow breathing through stress
- Holding tension because “now’s not the time to deal with it”
Sleep rests your mind.
But tension lives in your muscles and nervous system — and those need a different kind of reset.
That heaviness you feel?
It’s your body saying, “I’ve been holding a lot.”
Small things that help (without adding more to your to-do list)
Nothing dramatic. Just realistic.
- Drop your shoulders right now. Notice how high they are.
- Take one slow breath, longer exhale than inhale.
- Add warmth — hot shower, bath, heating pad.
- Let someone else handle the tension for you.
Because sometimes, your body doesn’t want another “wellness habit.”
It wants support.
Why massage helps when you’re not injured — just exhausted
Massage isn’t only for pain. It’s for when:
- Your body feels heavy after work
- Your muscles won’t fully relax
- Your mind shut off, but your body didn’t
A good massage tells your nervous system it’s safe to release.
No effort. No explanation. Just letting go.
At Bodhi Thai Massage, many of our clients book not because something is wrong — but because their body feels done carrying everything alone.
And honestly? That’s reason enough.
If this sounds like you
If you’re sleeping but still waking up heavy…
If work tension is living in your neck and back…
If rest hasn’t been enough lately…
This is your gentle nudge.
Your body’s been working hard for you all day.
Let it soften a little
