Why Thai Massage Feels Different?

It’s Not Just About Muscles

Most people think massage is about tight muscles.

Instead of working only where it hurts, we follow Sen lines pathways that run through the body and link different areas together.

That’s why sometimes working on your legs can relieve your back.

Why the Ten Sen Lines Matter in Treatment

The Sen lines provide a map.

They help practitioners:

  • Understand how tension travels through the body
  • Apply pressure with intention
  • Combine movement and compression effectively
  • Support full-body balance, not just local relief

Instead of chasing pain, Thai massage works along these pathways to reduce resistance and improve how the body moves as a whole.

The Ten Sen Lines

  1. Sen Ittha (Left Primary Line) – This primary line begins at the navel, travels downward to the pubic region, then continues along the left thigh to the knee. It curves upward along the left side of the spine, ascends over the head, and ends at the left nostril.
  2. Sen Pingkhala (Right Primary Line) – Mirroring Sen Ittha, this line begins at the navel, travels down to the pubic region, continues along the right thigh to the knee, then moves upward along the right side of the spine, over the head, and ends at the right nostril.
  3. Sen Sumana – This line begins at the navel and travels directly upward through the chest, passing the heart, continuing along the throat, and ending at the base of the tongue.
  4. Sen Kalathari – This line divides into four branches:
    • Two travel upward through the arms, neck, and head, then return down into the fingers
    • Two travel downward along the legs into the toes

    It connects the body’s centre to both the upper and lower limbs.

  5. Sen Sahatsarangsi – This line travels from the navel down the inner left leg to the foot, through all five toes, then returns upward along the front of the leg, through the chest, jaw, and ends at the left eye.
  6. Sen Thawari – This line mirrors Sen Sahatsarangsi on the right side, ending at the right eye after passing through the leg, chest, and jaw.
  7. Sen Chantaphusang – This line begins at the navel, travels upward through the left chest, neck, and chin, and ends at the left ear.
  8. Sen Rucham – This line mirrors Sen Chantaphusang, ending at the right ear.
  9. Sen Sukhumang – This line runs from the navel downward to the anus, supporting lower body regulation.
  10. Sen Sikhini – This line travels from the navel to the pubic region, through the urethral opening, and ends at the genital organs.
